Taekwon-do is a modern martial art developed in Korea. Literally it can be translated as: Tae - to jump, kick or smash with the foot, Kwon - to punch or destroy with the hand or fist, Do - art, way or method.
Values
Taekwon-do is based on traditional oriental valuesand students are expected to follow the fiveTenets of Taekwondo. They are also asked to take the Taekwon-do Oath.
History
Martial arts have been practiced in Korea since the 6th century AD. Taekwon-do was developed by the late General Choi Hong Hi after extensively studying various Korean martial arts and Japanese Shotokan Karate, and was officially named on 11th April 1955.
